Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, (Ephesians 6:5-7)
Dear Father,
We know that slaves in the first century were closer to the status of employees today. Most slaves of that time sold themselves into slavery to pay a debt. Effectively they were paid several months or years of wages in advance and were free to go after the allotted time.
As these children enter the workforce, I pray they follow these commands. May they obey their employers instructions as if they were serving Jesus. May they serve their employers sincerely and from the heart as they give their very best on the job. May they work hard regardless of whether their employer is watching, because they know that you are watching and you want them to give their best. Help them to resist the temptation to follow the crowd of half-hearted workers and complainers. May their work and their intentional Christian behavior lead their employers to praise you for your obvious influence in their lives.
Amen
