Walk as Dearly Loved Children

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1, 2)

Loving Father,

These children will have times in their lives when they may feel unlovable. They may have times when they particularly feel unlovable by you. Mistakes they make, unhealthy habit they form, words they have said, people they have hurt may all bring them to believe the evil one's lie - that you no longer love them.

By the power of your Spirit, help them always to feel the calling of your love. Draw near to them so that they sense your calling is not far away. Put your gentle hand on their shoulder - even when you may be disciplining them in order to turn them around - so they know your actions are motivated by intense love. When they are defeated and empty, lift them up into your gentle arms. As they more deeply understand this love, may they show that same love to others, with great mercy, patience and sacrifice - the sacrifice of their rights and wants, for the redemption of others. Just as Jesus did for them.

Amen
